My grandmother was the true definition of a GRANDmother. She truly was GRAND. She was the most loving, caring and sweetest person one could ever meet. My friends growing up would joke about how she could not possibly be my grandmother! She devoted her life to taking care of me and my 3 sisters. From Cutting my waffles every morning or singing me our favorite song "You are my Sunshine" to our nightly prayers by her bed. When my grandfather was alive we would have popcorn exactly at 12am if I was lucky enough to be up. My grandmother loved to read and she made sure I knew how to at a young age. When i was 4 I read my first book by myself to her. I was so proud to show her I could read like her. I would write books with her type-writer and she would tell me not to hit the keys to hard. In recent years where my grandma was not able to do everything alone me and my grandmother sat and had alot of conversations. I knew she would not be making it a long time and I expressed to her on a few different occassions my love for her. Me and My memere held a special bond, one you would only think a mother and child would have from birth until death. Before she passed she would call me her daughter. God called me to her side the night of her passing before bedtime and that is when I realized our soul tie was forever and would last into eternal life. I love you Memere and you will forever live in my heart and in my memory until we meet again my beautiful girl. I love you.

Mom,

You are sorely missed and deeply loved always. I honestly don't know what I am going to do with myself on Saturdays now, as that was always "Memere day". We will still have our family lunches but there will be an empty spot at the table where you should be. I hope you are playing Scrabble and watching Wheel of Fortune.

Below is a poem you gave to me when I was a little girl:

Not flesh of my flesh.
Not bone of my bone.
But still miraculously my own.

Never forget for a single minute.
You didn't grow under my heart, but in it.

My Auntie Gisele was unique, special, and the librarian type. My Mom was funny, silly, carefree, and never took things too seriously or stressed out. She would tell us stories about growing up in her big family and especially, with her sisters. Auntie Gisele, my Mom's "big sister" always looked out for her family and with every interaction and word spoken, she had the best of intentions. Each of my aunts are and were special and unique in their own way but Auntie Gisele was the Matriarch, the role model (especially when it came to being Catholic), and believe me, she set the standard. And boy did my Mom love to push her buttons!
My Mom told me a funny story of how one Christmas growing up, Auntie Gisele gave each of her siblings a book and how disappointed my mother was, that she was hoping to get nail polish or something frivolous. But no, Auntie Gisele gave her a book to read and benefit from. The story was funnier when my Mom told it.
Yes, I am sad she is gone and her family is hurting and I will no longer be able to see her in this lifetime but I cannot help but feel she is still setting the standard and my role model when it comes to being a good Christian and following God's word. Was it coincidence she left this world to be with Jesus on Good Friday? I think not. Do I wonder "where" she went and at which stage she in? Every Single. Day. I haven't stopped thinking about it. Is she with her husband, my Uncle Roger? Has she sat with Jesus and the Holy Spirit and for how long and what was it like? I have been captivated by it. For my Auntie Gisele, I am certain her leaving this life and joining our Heavenly Father in his Kingdom is amazing and beyond what I could imagine.
I am grateful and blessed that she was part of my family. I am happy that Auntie Gisele, my mother Doris, Memere, Pepere, aunts and uncles who have passed, have been reunited in Heaven. That Heavenly peace that I am sure comes with a manual spellchecked and updated by Auntie Gisele.

Your loving niece,
Kris Kermen-Petersen
